I’m conscious that it’s been a while since I’ve found a few moments to write a “Life behind the Lens” blog. Quite simply, there has hasn’t been time. What I’ve discovered about being a Mummy and a Photographer is that committing to one job is almost entirely impossible! I frequently find myself editing photo’s whilst bouncing George on my lap and singing 1361 Green Bottles (10 Green Bottles is never sufficient) and conversely, on the days when I promise myself that I’m going to focus 100% on being a Mummy, you can guarantee that I’ll either end up with my camera in hand or sending a quick email on my phone.
I’ve just about started to get an angle on my workload as a Mum. It’s not the carefully plotted timeline from pre-baby days (oh how I long for a well thought out timeline!) but it’s a sort of a system that factors in peeling Ready Brek out of George’s hair, throwing nappies and clothes into a rucksack whilst keeping up a constant flow of entertaining animal noises….and in the hush that follows dropping him at nursery I dare to congratulate myself. I’m doing it. Balancing my family alongside my work. Yes, sometimes the scales do tip alarmingly one way more than the other but that is life and I always know I’ll be back on track in no time.
A great friend once gave me a card featuring a beautiful photograph of a river at sunset, underneath were the words “Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths” (Etty Hillesum). Such wise words.
So….today is Monday and George is at nursery, I’ve give myself a celebratory pat on the back and have taken the couple of deep breaths I needed to focus and now….I’m DELIGHTED to show you our beautiful new sample album!
