I am fortunate enough to consider my clients as my friends and therefore witness the marriage of friends on a regular basis. However, this month we had the great privilege of witnessing the marriage of our very cherished friends, Laura and Greg; a seriously gorgeous couple both inside and out.
Laura and my little sister have been friends since the first day of secondary school so it’s fair to say she has been a pretty major part of my life. I’m quite sure that she can recount hideous stories from childhood, the occasions when I bawled my eyes out, threw tantrums and did some immeasurably uncool things! These incidents aside, her friendship with my sister has grown and so, in turn, has our family’s friendship with Laura.
I often find myself at a Wedding feeling incredibly humbled. Of all the people in the world, just a handful of select people have been invited to share this special day and here I am. I love to quietly sip my Pimms and watch the Bride sparkling as she is told for the hundredth time how beautiful she looks – and it is always true. I’ve never met a bride who wasn’t utterly radiant, how can they fail to look stunning when they are shining with such happiness! I watch the groom laughing with his buddies as they tell him that that’s it,, he’s under the thumb and he’ll be shackled for the rest of his days! I love to crowd together with all the other guests for the obligatory group shots, enjoying being one of the throng instead of the person trying to organise everyone! I cannot deny my excitement at knowing that food will be an integral part of the day – I am a renowned foodie! I love pawing over the various different styles of table plans, knowing that such time and attention has gone into making sure that we sit with people that we’ll enjoy chatting with. I love the “what are we eating” debate as we watch the food being served to the top table and then hungrily tucking into delicious meals that our hosts spent months deciding on. I sneakily watch the top table, see how the groom glances sidelong at his beautiful wife and how the Father of the Bride looks every so slightly nauseous as he tries to eat his meal whilst thinking about the impending speech he will have to give. I love watching the Bride and Groom watch the room, seeing how their faces can’t believe how all these people have shown up to share their day.
You can tell I’m an old romantic. I adore Weddings and even more than that, I adore witnessing two people committing themselves to each other for life. Watching Laura and Greg make their vows to one another and then seeing them revel in the love of their family and friends filled me with absolute joy. It was amazing for us to sit back and let the happiness of the day wash over us and were in the blissful position of not having to run around with our cameras trying to capture anything. That said, we couldn’t resist taking a few snaps! I particularly love the one of Laura leaping into the shot whilst I photographed my sister!
Laura and Greg, thank you for a beautiful day, thank you for being our lovely friends and thank you, Laura, for befriending my funny little sister all those years ago.
